- PDFs get faster because the Word template gets smaller. Every time a PDF is generated, your whole Word template is handed over — and the waiting time depends directly on its size. Almost always the megabytes sit in embedded images in print resolution, such as a logo or letterhead. On upload Univents now shrinks those images automatically to at most 1,600 pixels on the long edge; photos become JPEG (even when they sat in the template as PNG), logos with transparency stay PNG, and images that are already small enough are left untouched. The result line tells you what happened: “Template reduced from 5.5 MB to 0.6 MB (2 images)”.
- A note for large templates. If a template is still above 1 MB after shrinking, the layout shows “Large template — PDF generation takes longer” together with the file size. Then it pays to remove or swap images in Word.
- Shrink existing templates with one click. Layouts with their own Word template above 1 MB get a “Shrink images” button in the layout list, in the edit dialog and on the layout card inside a document. One click shrinks the stored template and reports the size before and after. The original stays backed up; if there is nothing to shrink, nothing changes.
