Image sizes for products, webshop & locations — how photos display perfectly

Recommended resolution, aspect ratio, and file format for product images, the hero image and logo of your booking page (webshop), and location images — so nothing gets cropped awkwardly.

Good photos sell — but only if they display correctly. You can hand these guidelines straight to your designer, photographer, or team. In short:

  • Product images: 1600 × 1200 pixels, 4:3 aspect ratio (landscape), as JPG
  • Booking page hero image (webshop): 2520 × 1080 pixels, 21:9 aspect ratio, as JPG — keep the important part in the middle
  • Booking page logo: PNG with a transparent background, landscape, at least 120 pixels tall
  • Location images: 1200 × 600 pixels, landscape, as JPG

Why the aspect ratio matters

Univents displays images in fixed frames so the booking page and the webshop look calm and tidy. Product images appear in a 4:3 tile (landscape); the webshop hero image and the location images in the overview appear as a wide strip.

Here's how it works:

  • Images created exactly in the recommended format fill their frame edge to edge.
  • Square or portrait product images are shown in full, but with borders on the sides. Product images wider than 4:3 (e.g. 16:9), on the other hand, are cropped at the sides.
  • With the magnifier (enlarge image), you always see the whole image.

Designed menu cards with text in the image are a special case: always create them in 4:3 landscape so the text stays fully readable in the tile.

Product, menu, and dish images

Applies to the Main image you set on a product in the inventory under Basics — it appears on the booking page, in the webshop, in the product detail view, and in package components.

  • Resolution: 1600 × 1200 pixels (at least 1200 × 900 pixels)
  • Aspect ratio: exactly 4:3 (landscape) — then nothing gets cut off in the tile
  • File format: JPG for photos, PNG only for images with a transparent background. You can also upload WebP and iPhone photos (HEIC) — Univents converts them to JPG during upload (only very small files up to 500 KB stay unchanged).
  • File size: you can select photos up to 20 MB — larger photos are automatically scaled down before upload (long edge max. 1600 pixels), and at most 5 MB is stored. So you don't need to edit photos beforehand.
  • More images: For recipe products, you can upload up to 8 more images under Recipe in the Recipe images field. They appear on the booking page in the product's image gallery after the main image and need the same format.

Tip: Center your subject and leave some breathing room around it — that way the image looks balanced in every view.

Booking page hero image (webshop)

Applies to the large image at the top of your booking page in the Webshop design and on ticket pages. You upload it in the booking page under Section 01 Details in the Hero image field.

  • Resolution: 2520 × 1080 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 21:9 (wide landscape)
  • File format: JPG; PNG and WebP also work
  • File size: max. 5 MB. The hero image is not scaled down automatically — as a JPG at this size you'll normally stay well below that.
  • Display in the webshop: a full-width strip, 192 pixels tall on phones and 256 pixels from tablets up. A slight darkening sits on top, with your page title or slogan on the left.
  • Cropping in the webshop: On a phone you see almost the whole image. On a wide monitor, though, the strip is much flatter than 21:9 — only a horizontal band from the middle of the image stays visible (roughly the middle third of the image height); the top and bottom are cut off.
  • Display on ticket pages: 16:9 on phones, 21:9 from tablets up — almost the whole image is visible there.

Tip: Choose a calm subject without text in the image and place the important part in the middle — horizontally and vertically. Keep the left half of the image fairly calm, because that's where the title sits.

Applies to the logo you upload in Section 01 Details in the Logo field. If you leave the field empty, the page uses your workspace logo.

  • File format: PNG with a transparent background is ideal; JPG and WebP also work
  • Shape: landscape, without a wide empty margin around the logo
  • Resolution: at least 120 pixels tall, e.g. 600 × 200 pixels
  • File size: max. 5 MB
  • Display: The logo appears small in the header (24 to 40 pixels tall depending on the design) and is never cropped — it is always fitted in full. A wide empty margin therefore makes it look smaller.

Location images

Applies to your event locations' photo gallery — these appear in the location selection on the booking page and in the location detail view.

This is not the hero image at the top of the booking page: you upload that Hero image in the booking page under Section 01 Details — see the section Booking page hero image (webshop) further up in this article.

  • Format: landscape, e.g. 1200 × 600 pixels — center the main subject
  • Display: In the overview, the image is shown as a wide strip; a bit may be cropped at the top and bottom. Click to enlarge and you always see the whole image.
  • File format: JPG; PNG and WebP also work
  • File size: max. 5 MB per image. Location images are not scaled down automatically — bring large camera photos down to the recommended size first and save them as JPG.
  • Count: up to 12 images per location

Frequently asked questions

What happens with square images? Square or portrait product images are shown in full, but get borders on the sides in the tile. Nothing is lost — for the cleanest result, we still recommend 4:3.

Which file format is right? JPG for photos, PNG for logos and graphics with a transparent background. You don't need to create WebP files: Univents converts product photos to JPG during upload anyway, and JPG works everywhere — including in quotes and other PDFs.

Why is my hero image cropped so much in the webshop? On wide screens, the strip at the top of the webshop is much flatter than any photo. So create the hero image in 21:9 and keep the important part in the middle — then it stays visible on phones and monitors.

Can I upload a PDF as a product image? No — PDFs can't be displayed as images in the browser. Export the page (e.g. a menu card) as JPG or PNG and upload that file instead.
