Image sizes for products & locations — how photos display perfectly

Recommended resolution, aspect ratio, and file format for product, menu, and location images — so nothing gets cropped on the booking page or product detail view.

Good photos sell — but only if they display correctly. You can hand these guidelines straight to your designer, photographer, or team. Follow them and your images will show up on the booking page, in the product detail view, and in the location overview without cropping or borders.

Why the aspect ratio matters

Univents displays images in fixed tiles so the booking page's grid stays calm and tidy. Product images appear in a 4:3 tile (landscape), location images appear in the overview as a wide strip.

Here's how it works:

  • Images created in exactly the recommended format fill their tile edge-to-edge — nothing gets cropped.
  • Square or portrait product images are shown in full, but with side borders (they are no longer cropped). For the cleanest overall look, we still recommend the 4:3 format.
  • When enlarged (clicking the image or "Details"), the whole image is always visible.

A special case is designed menu cards with text baked into the image: always create these in 4:3 landscape format, so the text stays fully readable inside the tile.

Product, menu, and dish images

Applies to every image you store on a product in Inventory (main image and gallery) — they appear on the booking page, in the product detail view, and inside bundle components.

  • Resolution: 1200 × 900 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: exactly 4:3 (landscape) — then nothing is cropped in the preview and the whole image appears without borders when enlarged
  • File format: JPG, PNG, or WebP
  • File size: maximum 5 MB per image — WebP at a few hundred KB is ideal for fast load times
  • Count: up to 8 images per product; the first image (main image) appears in the overview

Tip: center the subject and leave some breathing room around it — that keeps the image balanced in every view.

Location images

Applies to your event locations' photo gallery — these appear in the location picker on the booking page and in the location detail view.

  • Format: landscape, e.g. 1200 × 600 pixels — center the main subject
  • Display: in the overview, the image is shown as a wide strip; the top and bottom may get slightly cropped. Clicking to enlarge always shows the whole image.
  • File format: JPG, PNG, or WebP
  • File size: maximum 5 MB per image — WebP at a few hundred KB is ideal for load times
  • Count: up to 12 images per location

Frequently asked questions

What happens with square images? Square or portrait product images are shown in full but get side borders inside the tile. Nothing is lost — for the cleanest result, we still recommend 4:3.

Why WebP? WebP compresses noticeably better than JPG at the same quality. A 4:3 image at 1200 × 900 px is often just 100–300 KB as WebP — your booking page loads noticeably faster, especially on mobile.

Can I upload a PDF as a product image? No — PDFs can't be displayed as images in the browser. Export the page (e.g. a menu card) as JPG, PNG, or WebP and upload that file instead.
