Layout history: restoring an earlier state
After reading this article you'll know how to view and restore an earlier state of your layout in the Layout Editor — and what happens to your images when you do.
Every save in the Layout Editor overwrites your layout's design. So that a slip is not a loss, Univents keeps the last ten saved states of every layout. You'll find them behind the History button at the top of the editor.
Loading an earlier state
- Open the layout in the Layout Editor.
- Click History at the top.
- For each state the list shows the time, the person who saved it, and the size of the design.
- Click Load into editor on the state you want.
The state appears on the sheet and you can take your time looking at it. It is only saved when you click Save — until then you can load another state or leave the page at any time without anything changing.
A new entry appears with every save that actually changes the design. So if you clicked Back to template original by mistake and then saved, you simply pick the previous state out of the history.
What a state remembers — and what it doesn't
A state remembers the design: pages and their order, font, colours, margins, text, custom texts, product category assignment, and where each image sits.
The images themselves come from your current layout. That has two consequences worth knowing:
- An image that is still in the layout today comes back as usual when you load an old state — even if you have moved it somewhere else since.
- An image you have removed from the layout since that state is gone and cannot come back. Its place in the loaded state stays empty.
When that happens, Univents tells you right after loading — so before you save. You can then fill the empty place again, or discard the state by leaving the page without saving.
Tip: If you want to keep a particular picture for good, download it to your computer before you remove it from the layout. The history is a way back to a design, not an image archive.
Why the size says “Design”
The list reads, for example, Design 14 KB. That is the size of the saved state — the design without images. It says nothing about how large your layout is with all its images, which is why it stays small even for a very image-heavy layout.
Frequently asked questions
How many states does Univents keep? Ten per layout. The oldest one drops out when the eleventh arrives.
Can I delete a state? No. The history is deliberately not editable — otherwise it would not be a reliable way back.
Does everyone on the team see the same history? Yes. The history belongs to the layout, not to the person. Anyone who may edit the layout sees it.
How is this different from the “Unsaved changes” notice? That one comes from your browser and is about work you have not saved yet. The history is about states that were saved at some point.
