Setting Language, Region & Time Format

After reading this article you'll know where to switch the interface display language, how the workspace's content language works independently of it, where to set your workspace's country, time zone and date format, and how to set your personal time format to 24-hour or AM/PM.

Univents has several separate settings related to "language" or "region" that control different things: the display language of your own interface, the content language your workspace uses for newly created content, your workspace's country, time zone and format, and your personal time format. This article shows you where to find each one.

Changing the interface display language

If you want Univents shown to you in German or English — menu items, buttons, and labels — use the small language switcher at the top of the header, visible on every page of your workspace:

  1. Click the DE or EN label at the top of the header.
  2. Choose the desired language from the dropdown that opens.
  3. The page reloads immediately and shows the interface in the selected language.

Your browser remembers this choice (not your user account) for one year — on a different device or browser you'll need to set it again. German and English are currently available.

The choice also survives visiting a German page of univents.app in between, such as a help article or the pricing page. Those pages stay in the language of their address; your interface is not affected.

Setting the content language for new content

Separately from the display language, you set which language new categories, booking questions, booking pages, invoices, and emails are drafted in by default. This setting applies to the whole workspace, not just to you personally:

  1. Open Settings (gear icon in the left navigation).
  2. Click the Language & region card in the hub (or select Language & region in the left settings menu under "Univents").
  3. In the Content language section, in the Account base language field, choose between 🇩🇪 Deutsch and 🇬🇧 English.
  4. Click Save.

Existing content isn't automatically translated or converted — the setting only affects content created going forward. You can additionally maintain translations in other languages for individual pieces of content.

Setting country, time zone and format

On the same Settings > Language & region page, the Region & format section lets you set which country your workspace is in, which time zone appointments are entered and displayed in, and which date/number format Univents outputs values in:

  1. Open Settings > Language & region.
  2. In the Region & format section, choose the Country (e.g. Germany or United States).
  3. Choose the Time zone from the searchable list (e.g. Europe/Berlin or America/New_York).
  4. Choose the Date and number format (German (Germany), German (Austria), German (Switzerland), English (US) or English (UK)).
  5. Click Save. If you change the time zone, Univents warns you first: existing appointments keep their point in time, their displayed time shifts by the time zone difference.

This setting applies to the whole workspace, not just to you personally. It controls, among other things, how the calendar, shift plan, emails, PDFs, tickets, automations and reminders calculate and display times — plus which public holidays are available under Settings > Holidays, and whether documents label their tax column "VAT" or "Tax". Only the owner and admins with the "edit settings" permission can change it; everyone else sees the fields read-only. For an existing workspace, nothing changes on its own — the default is Germany / Europe/Berlin / German (Germany).

Setting the time format

Also on Settings > Language & region, the Time format section lets you decide whether times in input fields are shown and entered in 24-hour format or 12-hour format with AM/PM:

  1. Open Settings > Language & region.
  2. In the Time format section, choose between 24-hour (example: 14:30) and 12-hour (AM/PM) (example: 2:30 PM).
  3. Click Save.

This setting is personal to you, not workspace-wide — every team member can pick their own time format. The same time is always stored internally regardless of the display format chosen; only how it's entered and shown in forms changes.

Frequently asked questions

I want to switch the interface to German — where do I do that? Use the small DE/EN switcher at the top of the header, not the Language & region settings page. That page only controls the language of new content, the workspace's country/time zone/format, and your personal time format.

I can't find a 24-hour time in the input fields. Open Settings > Language & region and switch the Time format section to 24-hour. The setting applies immediately to every time input field in your account.

If I set the content language to English, will my interface also switch to English? No. The content language (account base language) only determines the default language of newly created categories, booking pages, invoices, and emails. You set your own interface language independently, via the switcher in the header.

Does everyone in the workspace see the same time format? No. The time format is a personal, per-user setting — everyone can choose 24-hour or AM/PM for themselves, regardless of what colleagues have set.

Are existing invoices or categories re-translated when I change the content language? No. The change only applies to content created going forward. Existing content stays unchanged, though you can still add translations to it manually.

I change my workspace's time zone — do existing appointments shift? No. Saved appointments keep their absolute point in time; only the displayed time shifts by the time zone difference. Univents warns you before saving, with an example. There's no automatic rewriting of existing appointments.

Who can change my workspace's country, time zone and format? The owner and admins with the "edit settings" permission. Everyone else sees the fields on the Region & format card, but can't edit them.
