What does AI usage cost in Univents?

How the cost of AI features in Univents is calculated, how the credit principle works, and what happens when your credit balance runs out.

AI features in Univents — the chat assistant, AI actions in automations, the offer import, and the AI layout from PDF — aren't part of your monthly plan; they run on a separate, prepaid AI credit balance for your workspace. This article explains the pricing mechanics: how the price of an AI request is put together. For your balance, usage log, packages, and topping up in detail, see AI credits & usage.

The credit principle

You don't pay a flat fee for "AI" as such — you pay based on actual usage. Every single AI request — a chat message, an AI import, an AI action inside an automation rule — draws down part of your credit balance, depending on how demanding that specific request was. A short chat question therefore costs noticeably less than reading in an extensive multi-page offer PDF. There's no monthly AI quota that automatically expires — your balance carries over until you actually use it.

How the price is made up

The amount deducted from your balance for an AI request isn't a made-up flat price — it tracks the actual cost that request causes with the underlying AI model, plus a markup that funds Univents' ongoing operation, development, and support of the AI features. Larger, more complex requests (e.g. reading in a quote with many line items) cost accordingly more than a short, simple one.

In the AI assistant chat, you can even steer this directly: the model switcher lets you choose between Simple and Complex — Complex is meant for harder tasks and costs more per message than Simple.

Where you see your balance

Your current balance, this month's spend, and a breakdown by area (chat, event planning, onboarding, email replies, AI layout from PDF …) live in the team workspace under Settings → Billing, in the AI credits and AI usage cards. Details on how to get there and the usage log are in AI credits & usage.

What happens when your balance runs out

Once your balance is used up, the affected AI feature stops or is skipped — the rest of Univents keeps working normally, independent of that. In chat, you'll see a message telling you to top up your balance to continue. If an AI action inside an automation rule is running at the time, only that one action is skipped — every other step in the rule keeps running normally.

Topping up

You can top up your balance manually in Billing at any time, or set up automatic top-up once your balance falls below a threshold you define, so you never run out mid-task. Larger top-ups come with bonus credit on top. The exact package sizes, bonus tiers, and how to set it all up are in AI credits & usage.

Frequently asked questions

Do I pay for AI features on top of my plan? Yes. AI usage runs on a separate, prepaid credit balance, independent of your monthly Univents plan.

Why does the same feature sometimes cost more, sometimes less? Because the price is calculated based on the actual effort of each specific request — a short chat message costs less than reading in a large offer PDF or a request in Complex mode.

Do I get credit for free without buying anything? Yes, new workspaces automatically receive a starter credit the first time they use an AI feature.

What happens to AI drafts in progress if the balance runs out partway through? AI drafts (tasks, schedule, function sheet, layout, reply draft …) are always just suggestions you review before they go live anyway. If the balance runs out during a multi-step run, Univents stops the affected step and lets you know you need to top up to continue.

Am I charged for failed attempts? No. If an AI call fails outright (e.g. a timeout), nothing is deducted from your balance — you're billed for what the underlying AI provider actually processed and answered.
